Lilith.

personal project

Yesterday I thought I saw her while walking the backstreets of Isfahan in the final rays of the evening sun, in the beams that only touch the minaret peaks and the slopes of distant mountains. The odor of smoke hung in the silence. I’ve traveled all the way from the Caspian Sea to the Gulf of Persia seeking signs, traces, symbols, or images that might point to Lilith's presence. What better place to look for her than here, where masculinity and femininity are so diametrically separated under autotalitarian and fundamentalist regime. Mythology tells us that Lilith was Adam's first wife. She declined to submit to her husband and then, fled from Paradise. She is rumoured to have become the mother of demons, and her story is used to frighten children throughout Mesopotamia. But her true history is known to no one,and opinions differ. Lilith represents destructive power, independence and sexuality—the dark corners of the subconscious, humanity's wild nature.
